For 24 hours straight starting October 17, at 10:00 a.m., local creative volunteers will once again converge on Virginia Western Community College for AAF Roanoke’s award-winning public service event, CreateAthon®.

The pro-bono event is a 24-hour, work-around the clock creative blitz during which local advertising, marketing, and public relations professionals from the Roanoke and New River valleys generate marketing services for local non-profits that have little or no marketing budget. Volunteers work through the day, night and into the next morning to provide the nonprofit organizations with collateral ranging from websites, photography, videos, print, and ad campaigns.

In the 5 years prior, AAF Roanoke’s CreateAthon event and its volunteers have provided a total of more than a half of a million dollars worth of creative services to local nonprofit businesses. “CreateAthon is one of the most exciting things we do as a club all year,” said Jamal Millner, AAF Roanoke President. “It’s a little crazy, a little intense, but it’s a great opportunity to give back to our community and we look forward to providing more incredible work this year to deserving nonprofits in our area.”

Previous beneficiaries have included: Blue Ridge Literacy, DePaul Community Resources, Virginia Museum of Transportation, YMCA of Roanoke Valley, Rescue Mission, The Science Museum of Western Virginia, Harrison Museum of African American Culture, Inc., and Roanoke Children’s Theatre.

CreateAthon relies on generous support of volunteers and sponsors to make it a success. Nonprofits may apply for services by visiting http://aafroanoke.org/apply.
