Network Beyond the Job Title

April 9 @ 5:30 pm 6:30 pm

Networking can connect you with potential clients, partners, employers, or investors. But it can also feel awkward, intimidating, or downright exhausting—though it doesn’t have to. If you’re tired of the same old “What do you do?” questions, join guest speaker Prof. Alexander Scott at our upcoming event, Network Beyond the Job Title at The Spot on Kirk, and learn how to move beyond small talk to create meaningful connections. You’ll walk away from this session with practical skills, a memorable experience, and the confidence to network like a pro!

What You’ll Take Away

  • Brainstorm “human hooks” that go beyond your company name and role.
  • Approach networking as an exercise in structured curiosity.
  • Learn two techniques to reduce your own anxiety and increase the other person’s comfort.

About Alexander

Alexander Scott is an Associate Professor at Virginia Western Community College, where passion meets purpose in the classroom! A multi-award-winning educator, he’s spent more than 24 years inspiring students to believe in their abilities, think boldly, and become lifelong learners.

Beyond teaching, he’s a master facilitator in workforce and corporate development, designing and leading leadership workshops that bring out the best in people. His sessions are known for laughter, insight, and those “aha!” moments that last long after the class ends. He believes leadership begins with authenticity, empathy, and a good sense of humor, all things he brings to every learning experience.

Alexander’s journey is anything but ordinary, blending education, aviation, and business into a one-of-a-kind career path. He holds a B.A. in Modern Languages and Literature, an MBA in Marketing, a Master’s in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign/Second Language, a Master’s in Communication, a Master’s in Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of Spanish, and certifications as an Aviation Weather Specialist and in Air Traffic Control. Talk about high-flying academics! From guiding airplanes to guiding students, he’s done it all, teaching Spanish, ESL, Marketing, and Public Speaking to learners of all ages.

Alexander’s newest passion is exploring how neuroscience enhances learning and communication. Known for his humor, enthusiasm, and genuine care for his audiences, he creates spaces where learning is both fun and meaningful.
